Feeling inspired

Recently I watched the Goonies and then completed the instance Deadmines. I watched the film since it has been said before that Deadmines was inspired by the epic tale of lost treasure and an underground pirateship.

I must admit that there are similarities between the Deadmines and the Goonies. One unmissable similarity is the end scene; a huge cave containing a ship at the pinnacle of an adventure. Other subtle similarities include the scenery of the instance; the entrance is hidden there are levers to pull (passageways had to be opened in the film), there are steam pipes, long winding tunnels, etc. I belive that the Deadmines could be more exciting if there were secrets to be found and riddles to be solved although this would have been difficult for Blizzard to implement.

The main differences between Deadmines and the Goonies are the live mobs (as opposed to dead pirates) and the fact that the ship is being constructed in Deadmines by the Defias (the ship had been holed up in a coastal cave in Goonies). Despite any differences Deadmines is certainly referenced to the Goonies, just as there are references to Chasing Amy, Donkey Kong, Pink Floyd and so on.

My experiences

In order to break up the tediousness of "barkskin / hurricane" I decided to spice things up a little and killed everything by using thorns. The problem with this approach was the inability to loot mobs and so I hit bosses with my stick (for those keys etc)! I must admit that it was very easy to body pull all of the mobs and then either stand there or run around making pretty patterns out of the mob trail, occasionally HOTing myself up. Although this was a novel approach to begin with it did get frustrating in the end since I had to wait for a mob to commit thorn suicide. If you have any ideas for another novel killing spree please let me know and I will be sure to try it!

I found two things interesting about completing this instance; one being that I didn't get lost!!! I also receieved [url=http://thottbot.com/i8490]Cat Carrier (Siamese)[/url] which I was initially excited about, after all it's not often that a horde character can get a pet cat! Then I discovered that a siamese cat can be brought from Netherstorm and was thoroughly disappointed!

This week I remembered to take my screenshot in my pretty dress as soon as I'd hearthstoned out of the instance! As a result I bravely made my way back but couldn't stand over my prey since Edwin VanCleef had despawned, instead I commandeered his the ship!

About 50 minutes, although I did have to return to take a screenshot. In my eagerness of completing Deadmines I ran out forgetting my promises of gloating over a dead boss in a fancy dress!
